Hello Students and Parents!
I have been teaching art, music, theatre and dance for over 25 years. I hold a Teaching Certificate from Simon Fraser University and a Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Certificate. I am passionate about making the arts fun and accessible for all. It has been a long time dream of mine to run a program for the fine and performing arts, and I am excited about this upcoming opportunity.
Dance Program
Each dance class will start with a ballet warm up and stretch that focuses on posture, flexibility, dance technique and simple steps like plies and rises. We will cover port de bras (arm movements), more intricate steps like arabesque, and work on short dance combinations. Stage presence and musicality will be incorporated into the weekly program. A variety of music will be used to set choreography to, including favourites like Disney, Broadway musicals and more. This course is designed to be a fun class with a ballet foundation and lots of opportunity to perform.
Art Program
Each art class will begin with drawing exercises and instruction on various areas, including perspective, composition and colour theory. The great Masters will serve as inspiration, and younger students will work from imagination and from life, while adult classes will focus on still life, work from photographs and even paint on plein aire (outside). These classes are designed to meet the needs of the individual student, so beginner and experienced artists are welcome. To find out about supplies for art classes, click here.
